i-ETC
What is it like to be responsible for a conference website?
A semester internship where I was the intern to the Web Designer for the i-ETC conference. I was able to attend committee meetings, design digital signage, and handle site maintenance during the time leading up to and through the conference. During this time I honed in on my design skills and had lots of practice with a CMS software.

Situation
UVU in partnership with other colleges around the state partner to hold a Engineering, Technology, and Computing Conference every year where knowledge is shared concerning these different tracks. With the head designer also being a Web Design program director at UVU he needed someone he could trust to spearhead design and web maintenance, that's where I came in. I took on a lot of the design needs of the conference and have been maintaining the site leading up to the conference, with the help and direction of my internship leader.
Tasks
-
Site Maintenance - The site was designed by a previous student, but websites are ever changing especially to the needs of the stakeholders. I was able to design something in Figma and implement the design in the CMS software.
-
Digital Signage - Create signage that directs traffic to the website to gain interest in the conference.
-
Committee Meetings - Attend meetings with stakeholders and assess needs of the conference and the needs of the attendees and what problems there are to be solved.
-
Personal Objectives - Create attainable personal goals that can be achieved through the internship.
Action
-
Sketch and Mock-ups using Figma so assets can be attained by other committee members.
-
Learn Omni CMS to make necessary updates to the website.
-
Bi-weekly design status meetings, weekly committee meetings.
-
Attend i-ETC conference.
Results
-
Critiques and Iteration. I was given a lot of freedom to design however during our bi-weekly design meetings we would go over my designs and improve them based off of universal design principles.

-
Recognition. My signage was posted around the different Utah university campuses for students and faculty to view and interact with.
